Hair loss and chemotherapy: understanding, anticipating and promoting regrowth

Why does chemotherapy cause hair loss?

Chemotherapy is a powerful treatment that targets the rapidly dividing cells. However, it's not only the cancer cells that multiply:

  • The hair bulb cells (responsible for hair growth) also divide very quickly.

  • As a result: they are destroyed by the treatment, which causes hair loss, but sometimes also loss of body hair, eyebrows and eyelashes.

This is known as chemotherapy-induced alopecia.
Good news: this loss is always temporary. As soon as treatment ends, the hair resumes growth.

When does hair loss start?

  • It generally occurs 2 to 3 weeks after the first session.

  • In some cases, hair can fall out from the first cycle.

  • The loss can be gradual or total, depending on the drugs and doses used.

This is a difficult stage, but it is not permanent.

Will my hair grow back after chemotherapy?

In the vast majority of cases, yes, hair grows back after the end of treatment.
However, it is important to be aware of certain realities:

  • In about 2% of cases, regrowth does not occur.

  • In more than 80% of cases, patients find that their hair is different: thinner, sometimes more sparse or less resilient than before treatment.

Hair loss therefore remains generally transient, but regrowth does not always match the expectations of patients (female and male).

To support this delicate period, Laboratoire RENASCOR has developed two complementary treatments:

🔹 REDACTIV1®: to restart immediate regrowth

  • Specifically suited to smooth scalps after total hair loss.

  • Non-greasy gel texture, that does not run and leaves no residue.

  • Promotes a reactivation of dormant hair bulbs and stimulates microcirculation.

  • Helps a faster return to the hair growth phase.

🔹 REDACTIV2®: to increase density and thickness

  • To be used as soon as hair exceeds 1 cm in length.

  • Fluid serum, non-greasy, that absorbs quickly.

  • Promotes stronger, thicker and more firmly anchored hair.

  • Improves hair density and supports reconstruction over time.

What solutions during alopecia?

While waiting for regrowth, many patients choose temporary aesthetic solutions:

  • Scarves and turbans

  • Hats and beanies

  • Medical wigs

These alternatives allow patients to regain confidence and social comfort while hair grows back.

RENASCOR: global expert in post-cancer hair reconstruction

Hair loss related to chemotherapy is a major emotional shock. But thanks to the protocols developed by Laboratoire RENASCOR, it is possible to:

  • Accelerate regrowth as soon as treatments end.

  • Obtain hair that is stronger, thicker and more resilient.

  • Quickly regain a positive self-image.

Cancer, all concerned. Reconstruction, all committed.
